So I’ve now been at Skewb for just over 4 months, and wow has that time flown!  

It simultaneously feels no time at all since I started, but also like I’ve been here forever – in a very positive way. 

I head off on holiday on the 1st February, and thought this would be a good opportunity to reflect on my time here so far, and why I’ve felt a shift in my perspective in January.  

• For starters, the Final Determinations have landed with Water Companies – this represents a new horizon commencing in April, with new recognition from Ofwat that investment is critical, and the largest package ever allowed.  It’s a really exciting time for Skewb, with the many offerings we have to support the drive for excellence – and we must seize this opportunity.  

• Secondly, I haven’t felt that I’m returning to ‘my new job’. This is now ‘my job’. Connections I made in Q3 (the Winter Event was absolutely fantastic for this!) have paved the way for my future here. I genuinely feel that my onboarding has been vastly accelerated by being my authentic self, so people can understand who I am, what makes me tick and my values. Now we’re in the New Year and we must act with pace, I really hope that people can feel where I’m coming from and understand that everything I’m doing, (even when being challenging and relentless!) comes from the right place; delivering to the very best of our abilities and growing Skewb. Do you think your authenticity has helped you to forge stronger connections? 

• Finally, I’ve physically shifted my location in the office. I’m sitting more centrally, where I really feel I can be part of the conversation, and act with pace on new insight, to ensure a strong finish to 24/25 and accelerate our preparations for the new financial year. I think this is something we can all do in our own ways – change the dynamic, shift your perspective and engage in a whole new way with colleagues. I’d like to challenge you all to set a few minutes aside and think how you can gain fresh perspective. 

Whilst I’m really looking forward to my holiday – I already have the fear of missing out, but I know I’ll return with renewed energy. I’ve found the Woods to be an exciting hub of activity, and it’s up to us to live and breathe that every day.
