Skewb
IDEA

Skewb is proud of the diversity of its workforce and encourages all employees to be their authentic selves at work.
We won’t wait for a member of our diverse Skewb family to be the victim of any type of discrimination. We are committed to active and innovative initiatives that foster diversity, inclusion, equality and anti-racism for all employees.
We acknowledge that we will never be perfect and rely on all of our employees to contribute to our common continued education on all aspects of inclusion & diversity. Skewb is of the firm conviction that a truly inclusive culture fosters diversity of thought which results in a resilient community and innovative solutions for our customers. It is therefore a business imperative for all Skewbers to feel safe and supported in their daily activities. Just as we seek the most innovative solutions for our customers, we want to implement fundamental and lasting change for our people.
We are one Skewb family!
Barry shares his experiences as one of the first openly gay Water Directors in the industry. He talked about navigating the sector as a gay man more than twenty years ago, how we can deliver a truly inclusive workplace and what steps we can take to better support each other.
Our Commitment to Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Access
Empowering Employee Resource Groups (ERGs): We actively support and engage our ERGs to foster a culture of inclusion. These groups play a crucial role in providing valuable insights that help us continuously improve our IDEA (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Access) efforts.
Enhancing Training and Development Programmes: We regularly conduct comprehensive training sessions on topics such as unconscious bias, cultural competence, and inclusive leadership. These programmes empower our team members with the knowledge and skills needed to create and maintain an inclusive workplace.
Leveraging Data-Driven Insights: We utilise data from employee surveys, feedback mechanisms, and inclusion metrics to guide and refine our IDEA strategies. These insights enable us to implement targeted interventions and measure our progress effectively, while also supporting our People team in demonstrating diversity.
Engaging with the Community: We actively collaborate with diverse community groups and prioritise diversity in our partnerships. By doing so, we reinforce our reputation as an inclusive employer and business partner, extending the impact of our IDEA initiatives beyond our organisation.

Collaboration
Days

At Skewb, we believe that the magic happens when we come together, which is why we’re so excited about Collaboration Days, a time for connection, where every voice counts, and every idea has the potential to inspire something amazing.
Our Summer Event is a one-day celebration that’s all about bringing our team closer. From Skewber Moments, where Skewbers share their insights and experiences, to casual networking sessions that make it easy to catch up with colleagues across the company, this day is all about fostering collaboration. We’ll also keep you in the loop with the latest business updates, and you can look forward to hearing from an inspiring guest speaker. And of course, there’ll be loads of activities designed to make the day as enjoyable as it is meaningful.
Social Happiness
When winter rolls around, our Winter Conference takes things up a notch with two full days of celebration and growth. This event mirrors the summer gathering but gives us even more time to dive deep into discussions, enjoy extended Skewber Moments, and soak in the insights from both an external guest speaker and an interactive panel. And the best part? The evening gala, featuring a delicious three-course meal, live music and an exciting awards ceremony, making it a truly memorable experience.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! Our HR People team keeps the energy high all year long with Social Happiness Days, a monthly tradition that everyone looks forward to. Each day kicks off with an update from our CEO, followed by a fun and informative Lunch and Learn session, where you might hear from an inspiring external speaker or one of our own Skewbers sharing their passions and experiences. There’s always a special spread of food to enjoy, and we wrap things up with a chance to connect and collaborate in a relaxed setting.
We know that everyone has their own way of working best, which is why our Collaboration Days are designed with plenty of flexibility. We’ve got break-out times to help you find your balance, and if you ever need a quiet moment, our Zen Room is always open. At Skewb, we’re all about coming together in ways that work for everyone, and we’re excited to see what amazing things we’ll create together. So, join us for Collaboration Days, where every voice truly matters!

On the 31st of March, the Skewb team came together to participate in the Great Tommy Sleep Out in support of the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI). We swapped our beds for sleeping bags, spending the night outdoors to raise vital funds and awareness for the more than 6,000 veterans currently experiencing homelessness in the UK. This initiative was not just about enduring a night in the cold—it was about making a real difference in the lives of those who have served our country.
Through our collective efforts, we raised a remarkable £2,744. Every penny of this amount will help RBLI provide safe and warm housing for veterans, ensuring that they have the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Our
Awards

At Skewb, our commitment to innovation and excellence has been consistently recognised by industry leaders. In recent years, we’ve been honoured with several prestigious awards that highlight our groundbreaking work and collaborative spirit.
Gas Industry Awards - Product of the Year

Gas Industry Awards - Product of the Year

In 2023, Skewb’s OPUS product was awarded Product of the Year at the Gas Industry Awards, hosted by IGEM and the Energy & Utilities Alliance (EUA). This recognition was a result of our successful collaboration with the Cadent North London team on their £55 million delivery programme. OPUS was developed with a clear mission: to enhance street works compliance by simplifying access to crucial data, thereby enabling the Cadent team to make timely and informed decisions. By streamlining processes and driving operational efficiency, OPUS has significantly impacted Cadent’s operations, and we are incredibly proud that our innovative solution has been celebrated at such a high level.

2024: Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme - Gold Award for Innovation

In 2024, Skewb was thrilled to receive the Gold Award for Innovation from the Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme’s Judging Panel, in collaboration with Cadent Gas. This award was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams, who have consistently gone above and beyond to exceed the Code of Good Practice requirements. Our commitment to excellence, public safety, and environmental stewardship was exemplified through the Skewb Climate initiative, where we partnered with Cadent to develop a ‘children travelling responsibly’ Minecraft module. This project was recognised by Alderman Alison Gowman, who presented us with the award, highlighting the impact of our innovative approach.

2024: UK Green Business Awards - Highly Commended for ‘Can for the Cam’ Campaign

Another highlight of 2024 was our Highly Commended recognition at the UK Green Business Awards for our ‘Can for the Cam’ campaign, created for Cambridge Water. This initiative encouraged Cambridge residents to conserve water by using watering cans instead of hoses, which can use up to 1,000 litres of water per hour. The campaign was a huge success, saving 0.94 megalitres per day (MLD), as calculated through AI machine learning modelling on household consumption data. This commendation underscores our commitment to environmental sustainability and our ability to drive meaningful change through innovative solutions.

2024: The UK Customer Experience Awards - Gold in the Best Business Change and Transformation Category

Skewb was delighted to win the award for Best Transformation and Change at the 2024 UK Customer Experience Awards for our work in Cadent’s Customer Experience Centre. The programme of work saw fantastic improvements in employee experience, operational performance and customer experience, with Cadent’s networks topping the industry league tables for customer satisfaction for the first time ever!

The programme also harnessed our team’s digital expertise to implement innovative technology enablers to benefit customers and support employees by giving them tools they need to do their jobs effectively, whilst preparing a roadmap for future technology improvements.

We were especially pleased with the judges feedback that Cadent and Skewb were the perfect example of a partnership, working seamlessly together so they couldn’t differentiate where one ended and the other began. That is testament to how we believe in delivering our projects, working shoulder to shoulder with our partners to achieve amazing success.
